All behavior happens for a reason. How you respond to that behavior determines if you encourage or discourage it to happen again.
The “Functions of Behavior” identify WHY a behavior is occurring. Once you know WHY a behavior is happening, you can decide whether the behavior is appropriate or not.
If a behavior is inappropriate, you want to be careful NOT to encourage it.
